Samuel Lawrence Adesuyi (1923-1976) was a Nigerian medical practitioner who became the Chief Medical Adviser of the Federation. He was also the Director of Medical Services and Training, Federal Ministry of Health. https://www.health.gov.ng/

Early life and education[edit]

Adesuyi was born on 30 November 1923 in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State. After his elementary schooling at St Peter's School, he attended Ibadan Government College from 1937 to 1942 and proceeded to Yaba Higher College and Later to Achimota College in Accra, Ghana. Adesuyi completed his tertiary education in University College of Ibadan Medical School in 1950.[1]

Career[edit]

Adesuyi was appointed as House Physician and Surgeon at Adeoyo Hospital in Ibadan. In 1959, Dr Adesuyi was appointed Federal Medical Statistician and from 1962 to 1965, became Consultant Medical Statistician to the Federal Ministry of Health. He held many other prominent post, including serving on the Advisory Panel on Health Statistics of the WHO, as well as past vice-president of the Nigerian Olympic Association.

Later life and death[edit]

Dr Adesuyi bagged many awards as part of his illustrious profession. He died on 17 July 1976, in Lagos.
