Samuel Escher (born 30 August 1985) is a Scottish singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist.[1] He released his debut studio album Wilderness on 11 January 2019.[2]

Early life[edit]

Samuel Escher was born 30 August 1985 in Edinburgh, Scotland. [3] He started playing guitar when he was young and started writing songs in his teens.[1] Escher plays various instruments including; acoustic guitar, cello, drums, electric bass, electric guitar and piano.[4] Escher spent ten years travelling and did not consider becoming a musician until his thirties when he decided to treat songwriting as a profession.[1]

Career[edit]

Escher performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018.[5] Escher played in the semi-final of the Listen Up Music Songwriter's Festival on August 30th 2018.[6] On October 12th 2018, Escher incorporated his own record label, Samuel Escher Recordings Ltd.[7] In January 2019 Samuel released his debut album Wilderness on the label.[8] The album cover was created and drawn by Australian visual artist Melanie Caple.[5] Following the album's release the Musicoin Project made Escher their Artist of the Week.[9] Escher's album appears in the Scottish Album of the Year Award 2019 as an eligible album.[10] In September 2019, British retailer Richer Sounds made Escher their Richer Unsigned Artist of the Week.[11]
