The Basilica of Saint John of Avila (Spanish: Basilica de San Juan de Avila) is a minor basilica located in the town of Montilla, Cordoba, Spain.

Formerly called the "Church of the Incarnation" and later "Sanctuary of San Juan de Avila" was elevated to the category of minor basilica in a decree dated June 20, 2012, signed by the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the Spanish cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera.

The basilica has been dedicated to Saint John of Avila, patron saint of the Spanish secular clergy and doctor of the Church since October 2012[1] and houses his remains, kept in the "Ark of the Testament".

History[edit]

The first church was founded in 1568 with the help of the Marquises of Priego, the mediation of Francisco de Borja and the presence of Juan de Avila, who would ask to be buried in it, as it was done. In 1944, it was opened for public worship.
