Sandi Hilal (born 1973 (age 50–51), in Beit Sahour, West Bank, Palestine) is a Palestinian architect and urban planner who deals with urban sociology and planning.[1][2]

Biography[edit]

Hilal obtained her master's degree from Sapienza University in Rome. From 2001 to 2005, she was Assistant Professor of Fine Art and Urban Studies at the University of Architecture (IUAV) in Venice. She received her Ph.D. in 2006 in the field of "cross-border policy in everyday life" at the University of Trieste in Italy.[3]

In 2003, Hilal presented the Palestinian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale together with Alessandro Petti. She was curator for the Arab cities project as well as the research project Exhibition Stateless Nation. In 2007, Hilal, Alessandro Petti and Eyal Weizman founded the Decolonizing Architecture institute (DAi) in Bethlehem. The institute was awarded a Prince Claus Award in 2010.[2][3][4]

She works for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on an improvement program for Palestinian camps. She has published in various international newspapers and magazines.[2]
