Sanjay Pandey is an Indian police officer in the 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS). He was appointed as the acting DGP of Maharashtra, now appointed as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai..[1]

He had been the key role in the probe against former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh and former state intelligence department chief Rashmi Shukla.[2]

Early life[edit]

Sanjay Pandey was born in 1962 on 15th June in Mumbai and is a 1986 batch IPS officer. He studied computer engineering at IIT Kanpur. Presently he is 60 years of age. Mr. Sanjay Pandey is an erstwhile Director-General of the Police of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He has been appointed as the new Mumbai Police commissioner, replacing Mr. Hemant Nagrale. An official order was given by Mr. Nagrale that Pandey will take over. Earlier Nagrale was the Managing Director of the Mumbai, Maharashtra State Security Corporation. This is one of the third times in less than a year that the Mumbai Police is witnessing a change of the guard. Initially, the city police chief Mr. Param Bir Singh was shunted out in March of the year 2021 after the arrest of the officer Sachin Vaze in the case of Antilia explosives case.[3] Mr. Sanjay Pandey is a 1986 year batch IPS officer who was appointed as the acting DGP in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India in April last year. He was never given full charge. Later he was shifted from his place by Rajnish Seth, a 1988 year batch IPS officer, earlier this month, in February after the Bombay High Court rapped the state government.

Education[edit]

Sanjay Pandey has completed his Bachelors of Technology in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur in the year 1983.[4] He had successfully joined the advance test scholar course and completed this 5 year course in a span our 4 years. Post this he interned at Crompton Greaves in Mumbai as a programming intern for a short duration. In the year 1998, he further pursued in Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in United States of America. During his education, he was a Mason fellow at the Kennedy School and Interned at the Kennedy School Computer Lab and Harvard Student Agencies as a software engineer.[5]
