Sanjiv Bajaj (born 2 November 1969) is an Indian businessman and the Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv Limited – a part of a part of Bajaj Holdings & Investments Limited, an Indian financial services company focused on lending, asset management, Wealth Management and Insurance. He is the Vice-Chairman of Bajaj Finance Limited and the Chairman of Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. In 2018 he was recognized as the Business Leader of the Year by Economic Times and in 2017, he was recognized as the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’, India by EY. He is the second son of Rahul Bajaj, Chairman of Indian conglomerate Bajaj Group.
Early Life & Education
Sanjiv was raised in Pune where he did his schooling at St. Ursula’s High School, Pune. In 1991, he completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, from College of Engineering, Pune (COEP).
Sanjiv later pursued his Master’s programme in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, M.Sc. with a distinction from the University of Warwick, UK. He then went on to join the flagship 2-year full-time MBA degree program from Harvard Business School, USA in 1995 and graduated in the class of 1997.
Career
In 1994 Sanjiv began his career in Bajaj Auto Limited. During this period, he headed Finance and Control, legal and international functions until 2007. He went on to become the Executive Director at Bajaj Auto Limited until March 2012. Currently, Sanjiv is serving as the non-executive director of Bajaj Auto.
In 2007 the board of erstwhile Bajaj Auto demerged the auto and financial businesses. Sanjiv Bajaj took charge as Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv Limited (BFL) in February 2008. Under his leadership, BFS transformed[1] into a diversified financial services company operating across lending, general and life insurance.
In 2001 Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company (BAGIC) and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company Limited (BALIC), both joint ventures between Bajaj Finserv Limited (formerly part of Bajaj Auto Limited) owned by the Bajaj Group of India and Allianz SE, a German financial services company were formed. Sanjiv was the Non-Executive Director of BALIC and BAGIC from their inception till March 2013.
Since 2013 Sanjiv serves as the Vice Chairman of Bajaj Finserv Limited (BFL)and Chairman of BALIC and BAGIC.
Personal Life
Sanjiv hails from the illustrious Bajaj Family and is the great grandson of Indian independence fighter and philanthropist, Jamnalal Bajaj. Born on 2 November 1969, he is the younger son of Rahul Bajaj, one of leading Indian businessmen and Chairman of Bajaj Group.
Sanjiv is married to Shefali. The couple resides in Pune with their two children. Sanjiv enjoys swimming and practicing yoga. His hobbies include playing tennis and basketball.
