Sankh is a village in Jath taluka of Sangli district. The historical name of Sankh is Soukhyanagara (Kannada:ಸೌಖ್ಯನಗರ).
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, Sankh town has a population of 8,447. The male population is 4,418 and the female population is 4,029. Sankh has an average literacy rate of 70.4%, lower than the national average of 74%; with male literacy of 77.16% and female literacy of 60.06%.
As per the constitution of India and the Panchayati Raj Act, Sankh village is administered by a Sarpanch (Head of Village) who is the elected representative of the village.
