Sarah Griffith
Sarah Griffith is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for the Chicago Red Stars club of National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), the highest division of women's professional soccer in the United States, as well as the Australian Women's A-League for the Newcastle Jets Football Club.
Career
Born to parents Peter and Melissa Griffith in Naperville, IL Griffith attended Purdue University where she majored in psychological sciences. She holds multiple records for the Boilermakers soccer program including most goals in a season, most consecutive games with a goal, with eight goals in a seven-game stretch, shots in a season and shots on goal. Griffith also is tied for most game-winning goals in a season and career overtime points.[1] During her time at Purdue, she also served as team captain and earned three Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, fourth-most by a single player in conference history.[2]
Griffith was drafted by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2022 NWSL Draft (Third Round, 35th Overall), Chicago's second pick in the draft. She made her debut on April 30th, 2022 against Racing Louisville FC and played for 80 minutes.[3] Griffith played in 20 games in her rookie season, including 6 games in the starting rotation for a total of 625 minutes.[4] She scored her first goal against Orlando Pride FC on May 22, 2022. Her second goal was a notable lob shot against NC Courage FC in the 90th minute which set up for an overtime equalizer to keep the team in playoff contention.
On November 1st, 2022, it was announced that Griffith was signed on-loan by the Newcastle Jets FC for the 2022/2023 season.[5] On November 26, 2022, Griffith scored a hat-trick in a match against the Western Sydney Wanderers leading the team to a 4-2 victory
