Sarah Pilot (née Abdullah) is a daughter of Indian politician Farooq Abdullah, a former Chief Minister of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Personal life
Sarah was born to Farooq and Mollie Abdullah. Her father is Kashmiri while her mother is British. On 15 January 2004, she married Indian politician Sachin Pilot in New Delhi, India.[1] Her husband is a Hindu and she is a Muslim. As a consequence of their different faiths, there was significant opposition to their wedding. Her father and brother were against her marrying a Hindu. After her marriage, her family disavowed her for several years.[2] The couple has two sons, Aaran and Vehaan.
Career
Sarah Pilot started her career working with UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women, a part of UNICEF). In 2009 she co-founded the NGO Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEQUIN) with Lora Prabhu.[3] Her work with the NGO is focused on empowerment of women and girls with a specific emphasis on leadership building of women and girls, addressing violence against them, economic empowerment and health and well-being.[4]
