Origin of Clan
The societies in Himalayan region from Jammu region of J&K to Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand, shared a pattern of History, where numerous small kingdoms were scattered over hills and small valleys. To term it more precisely, these 'kingdoms' were rather fortified villages of warrior-landlords. Most of Rajput groups in today's Jammu have origin in these kingdoms, the name of which became that of each town/place as well of each rajput clan. The name of Sauram hills and Sarmal clan both have their roots in hills of Sauram There are many sub-clans of Sarmal who also migrated to other places and gave rise to sub - clans. These Clans are found near neighbouring area of sauram.'
