Saro Grimani, pseudonym of Rosario Di Vaio, (born April 4, 1974) is an international contemporary artist...[1] He lives and works in Italy.

In 2023 he was included in the yearbook Artists'23 and he participated in the Amedeo Modigliani Foundation Prize[2]

Socially and politically active artist in 2022 he participated in the Rome Art Biennale[3]

Biography[edit]

Saro Grimani was born in Naples, but after his university studies he moved to Venice, where his art and professional commitment as a designer matured.

During the 2000s, Saro Grimani started working as an industrial designer, designing objects for the home and contract sectors. In 2007, he collaborated with a collective of designers and architects whose aim was to create high quality design objects accessible to the general public. Saro Grimani is an outstanding artist and designer whose career has developed through various movements and trends. His Dadaist work and his later work in the Memphis movement were characterised by a strong irony and social criticism, which profoundly influenced contemporary design and art.[4]

Artistic practice[edit]

Saro Grimani, creates dadaist paintings of subject of social interest .[5] The surface of this subjects are always decorated with patterns, symbols, letters, glyphs and other kind of figures, in a great variety of forms.[6]

His works are aimed at raising the viewer's awareness of social issues, such as war, gender violence, freedom and the holocaust[7]
