The Sarvottama Granthalayam (Telugu: సర్వోత్తమ గ్రంథాలయం), also known as Andhra Pradesh Library Association Sarvottama Library, earlier known as Sarvottama Bhavanamu is a private library in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India.[1] The library is maintained by Andhra Pradesh Library Association. It is one of the oldest libraries of India. Named after Gadicherla Harisarvottama Rao, it was founded on 30 May 1987.
The library is located at Patamata, Vijayawada.
History[edit]
Paturi Nagabhushanam decided to establish a library in the city, during the library movement in Andhra Pradesh. He founded the library on 30 May 1987 on the auspicious day of Ugadi (Telugu New Year). He converted the Sarvottama Bhavan, central office of the association into Sarvottamma Granthalayam.[2] The library building has an area of 2500 sq. feet.
APCL celebrated its Golden jubilee in May 1964 and Platinum jubilee in April 1989 in the building.
Collection[edit]
There are thousands of books related to Telugu literature, arts, science, history, geography, politics, languages, personality development, law and competitive examinations. The library is being functioned by automated software.
Digital library[edit]
On the association's centenary celebration, a digital library named after Iyyanki Venkata Ramanayya was started.
Children's library[edit]
On 15 October 2016, during A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's 85th birth anniversary, a dedicated children's library was started. It is named as "Abdul Kalam Children's Library".
