Rear Admiral Satish Shenai is an officer in the Indian Navy from Pernem, Goa. He was appointed as the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA) on January 8, 2025, succeeding Rear Admiral Ravi Kumar Dhingra at INS Adyar.
Early life and education
Shenai completed his schooling at Viscount of Pernem High School in Pernem, Goa. He joined the Indian Navy in 1985 with aspirations of playing cricket for the services team. He later graduated from the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu and attended the Army Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.
Career
Shenai is a specialist in gunnery and missile warfare. He has commanded several Indian Navy warships, including INS Kirch, INS Trishul, and INS Talwar.

Appointment as FOTNA
On January 8, 2025, Shenai assumed command as the Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA), overseeing naval operations in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. His role includes command and control over all naval ships, units, and establishments under his jurisdiction. He also provides administrative support to INS Kattabomman and INS Rajali.
His appointment as FOTNA is considered a proud moment for Goa, as he hails from Pernem.
Personal life
Shenai is the only son of Meghnath and Shashikala Shenai. His father was a government primary school teacher who taught at various schools in Pernem. Shenai maintains close ties with his hometown and describes Pernem as his ‘karmabhoomi’.
He is an avid barefoot half-marathon runner and enjoys reading books on various subjects.
Before his appointment as FOTNA, Shenai served as the **Chief Staff Officer (Training) of Southern Naval Command**, assuming the role on January 16, 2024.
