Saudisoft

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Saudisoft is an Arabic technology company established in 1983 in Saudi Arabia. During this period, English was dominating the computer business and only a few startups/entrepreneurs invested in the technology domain to support/provide the Arabic Language in business software/hardware. As of today, Saudisoft and Sakhr are the only continuing companies from this era and still provide Arabization services in the field of IT and language solutions.[1]

History

Saudisoft is an information technology company established in 1983, in Saudi Arabia by a group of investors teamed up with Eng. Sami Saadi, who started the company's business as a software solutions provider and introduced the market to a set of Arabic products such as Citizen Arabic Enabled Printers and El Mussaed Al Arabi.

In the early 1980s, companies in the Middle East faced challenges finding applications that support the Arabic language. Some companies including Saudisoft provided several trials of programs with Arabic language technology solutions.

To help other companies support Arabic in their own applications, the company developed an Arabization engine; MA/2 (El Mussaed Al Arabi program), which was introduced to the market in 1987. The engine helped DOS programs to support Arabic features; e.g., Right to Left reading order, Automatic Character shaping …etc.; in their applications by using MA/2 APIs (Application Programming Interface). A group of programs such as Waseet and Arabic Kits (Arabic calligraphy program) followed this to support a wider range of Arabic users. The company also helped a group of international companies to support the Arabic language in their products/Operating systems which helped to enrich the Arabic technology market.

In 1992, Saudisoft opened a branch in Egypt which became responsible for providing integrated translation and localization services using right-to-left languages for local markets. Including engineering, testing, and preparation of desktop publishing "DTP", as well as customized IT solutions to fit the needs of each project.

In 2002, Saudisoft was the first Saudi company to participate at CeBIT, the largest computer and electronics exhibition for IT, held annually in Germany.[2] And was one of the founding members of GALA (the Globalization and Localization Association) since the same year.[3]

In 2007, Saudisoft was able to sign an Arabization and localization partnership for local markets with SAP.[4]

As recognition of Saudisoft's role in the Localization market, its Egypt's general manager Eng. Wafaa Mohiy El-ddin, was elected in 2016 as a board member for two terms.[5]
