Saw Shalom Haythaw (born 14 August 1994) is a Singaporean footballer of Karen descent. Renowned for his versatility as both a goalkeeper and defender, he has represented a number of semi-professional and amateur football and futsal clubs in Singapore and Australia.
He was part of the Gymkhana FC team that won the Singapore National Football League Division 2 title in 2017.
As of 2025, Shalom serves as the captain of Woodlands Lions FC, competing in the Singapore Island Wide League and the Singapore FA Cup. His captaincy makes him the first ethnic Karen player in Singapore to lead a club in a Football Association of Singapore (FAS)-affiliated national competition.
Shalom comes from an extended family with deep football roots. His grand-uncles include Saw Ba Myint, a former Myanmar national football team player who is the cousin of his maternal grandfather, and U Robin, a former Kayin State selection player and the brother-in-law of his maternal grandfather. His maternal cousin, Saw Christian Lau Bah, is also a club footballer who played alongside him at Woodlands Lions FC in 2025, while his maternal cousin-in-law, Saw New Lan Lwin, served as a club official for the same team that year.
Club career
Shalom began his football journey in Singapore with Gymkhana FC in 2017, helping the club secure the National Football League Division 2 championship. The victory established his reputation as a dependable player in local football.
In 2018, he joined Yishun FC, followed by a season at Eunos Crescent FC in 2019. Known for his adaptability, Shalom transitioned between goalkeeper and defender roles effectively. In 2020, he signed for Gaelic Lions FC and later Commonwealth Cosmos FC, which was preparing for the Singapore Football League Division 2 season before its cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He remained with Commonwealth Cosmos until 2022.
In 2022, Shalom moved to Australia and registered with Western Suburbs SC. Administrative delays with his international transfer certificate (ITC) limited his appearances, prompting him to switch to futsal for more match time. He represented Melbourne Fury FC and Eastern FC in the Series Futsal State League One and the Mount Evelyn Premier League respectively.

This made him the first Singaporean of Myanmar–Karen descent to play both football and futsal at club level.
In 2023, he played for Footscray United Rangers FC and later represented Melbourne University FC (futsal), demonstrating participation in both football and futsal. After returning to Singapore in 2024, he joined Hotspurs FC in the Cosmopolitan Football League. In 2025, he was named captain of Woodlands Lions FC, a team competing in the Singapore Island Wide League and the Singapore FA Cup. He was the first ethnic Karen player to captain a club competing in official national tournaments organized by the Football Association of Singapore.
