Scanscoper is an English Ambient musical group from the United Kingdom, formed in 2015.

Scanscoper released their debut album, The Wrong Way, in 2017, showcasing their ambient yet hip-hop and electronic style of unique music. Scanscoper went on to later produce Scanscoper EP that same year. Most of their success came from the free music-sharing site Soundcloud, where The Wrong Way (2017) accumulated the group over 1,000 plays.[1] In 2021, Scanscoper would go on to release 2 new singles, Moon Taxi in April 2021 and Polygon in May 2021 and would later release a remaster of their debut album named The Wrong Way: IV Anniversary, marking the album's 4 year anniversary[2] since its original release.

History[edit]

First singles and The Wrong Way (2015-2017)[edit]

After their formation in 2015, Scanscoper released their first 2 songs on SoundCloud, a free audio distribution platform. In 2015 alone, with 2 songs, Scanscoper accumulated around 1,000+ plays in their first year.

In 2017, Scanscoper released The Wrong Way, their debut album, followed by a single named 'Route 66" and the "Scanscoper EP" after the group was met with moderate success from their debut in 2015.

Decline (2018-2020)[edit]

After the release of Scanscoper EP, Scanscoper would go on to fall completely silent without releasing any new material between 2018 and 2020. Their silence and lack of material as well as lack of audio distriution is believed to be a catalyst in their decline. However, during these years, Scanscoper would continue to have a mean of around 400+ plays while reaching an all-time low of 385 plays alone in 2020.

On 25 December 2022, Scanscoper revealed that they had originally split up in 2019, but began making a return in early 2021.

Reformation (2021 - 2022)[edit]

In April 2021, Scanscoper would set up a Twitter account[3] and would extend their audio distribution to services such as Spotify[4] and Apple Music[5] while still continuing to use Soundcloud. This was after the spontaneous release of their new single Moon Taxi on 17 April 2021. Later, in May, Scanscoper would also go on to release another new single titled Polygon on 10 May 2021, and would later release a remaster of their debut album The Wrong Way titled The Wrong Way: IV Anniversary (2021 Remastered edition), exntending their audio distribution to Amazon Music[6] and Deezer[7].

On 9 July 2021, Scanscoper announced that they were working on their second studio album.[8]

On 1 January 2022, Scanscoper teased Game On! on SoundCloud, signalling brand new material on the way.

On 25 January 2022, the group released 'Game On!', their first single since Polygon, and on 11 January updated their aesthetic look, teasing a likely upcoming second album.

On 8 February 2022, the group released 'Human Kind', a more alternative/indie-sounding song, signalling a shift in the group's electronic sound, with a brand new aesthetic that could link to their new album.

The Ibreon Complex (2022 - present)[edit]

On 9 July 2021, Scanscoper announced that they were working on their second studio album.[8] This was followed later on in 2022, when Scanscoper released their "first single from the upcoming album" 'A Bump In The Night' on September 5, 2022. The group later hinted at an album release in 2023.

On 26 October 2022, the second single, "Flu", was released.

On 22 December 2022, Scanscoper confirmed the release of the third and final single, "The Signal", on 25 December 2022, and released "The Ibreon Complex"on 6 January 2023. In April 2023, Scanscoper stopped releasing new material to their Soundcloud page, purley focusing on other platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer.

On 8 June 2023, Sanscoper released surprise single "WhoBot?", followed by "Hello World!" on 7 July 2023. No following announcement was made about any upcoming projects. In September 2023, the group went on hiatus, but promised "more material" would be on its way in 2024-2025. They re-entered the studio in May 2024 to begin recording and producing new material for their third studio album.

On 5 July 2024, Scanscoper released "INTERMITTENT FAULT".
