Schanz Rollladensysteme
Schanz Rollladensysteme GmbH is a German manufacturer of specialized roller shutter systems based in Simmersfeld, Baden-Württemberg.[1]
History
Schanz was founded in 1977 by engineer Hans Schanz in Simmersfeld, Germany.[1][2] Schanz developed an angled roller shutter (“Schrägrollladen”) that can cover non-rectangular openings by rolling upward from the bottom.[3][1]
In 1984, Schanz introduced a roller shutter, under the product name Studio Star, that could be installed from the bottom up to fit various window geometries. By the late 1980s, it was manufacturing asymmetrical roller shutters.[3]
In 1990, Schanz developed the Wiga Star system, an aluminum roller shutter designed for large glass roofs and conservatories.[3] In 1995, a sister company, Alutech United, Inc., was established in Delaware to manufacture storm-resistant shutters using Schanz's technology. Hans Schanz’s sons, Holger and Joachim, joined the company, with Holger focusing on the European business and Joachim managing the U.S. expansion.[1]
In 2003, leadership of the family business passed to the second generation, with Holger Schanz assuming management of German operations and Joachim Schanz running Alutech United.[1][4] The original shutter business and the Wiga Star division were consolidated to form the current Schanz Rollladensysteme GmbH. In 2006, Schanz opened a branch in Switzerland.[1] The company later established offices in Rheine and Meuselwitz to operate across Germany, followed by a branch in Austria, Luxembourg, and the Alsace region of France.[1][2]
