Chris Schiermann (born April 1, 1970) is an American progressive metal guitarist, composer, producer and engineer. Known by his virtuosic melodies and progressive grooves inspired by many players across the decades. His solo project was created in 2016 releasing his first album self titled SCHIERMANN on December 2017.
Early life and career[edit]
Born in Sioux City, Iowa. He started playing guitar at the age of 13 with a used 1977 Gibson Les Paul his father gave him. Being a self taught guitarist he stayed on that path, focusing on his composing and writing skills while playing with his brother Marty who is a drummer.
After playing the hotel lounge circuit and bars as a teenager Chris was asked to join an original band Die Laughing. Die Laughing had minor radio success and opened for national touring bands such as The Dixie Dregs, Dream Theater, Lizzy Borden and Kings X. After about 5 years in that band Chris decided to pursue his own solo project called Isle of Man (1994). He recorded demos with a full band and vocalist, that project ended in 1996.
He continued to write over the years and his debut album SCHIERMANN is a compilation of this music.
Influences[edit]
