Scoops was a 2008 action game developed and published by the American indie studio NimbleBit. In Scoops, the player must stack the highest possible ice cream cone by gathering scoops and avoiding vegetables. It was released on September 18, 2008, for iOS devices but was discontinued following the release of iOS 11 in September 2017 that caused the removal of a mass amount of apps from the App Store. Scoops received praise for its simple gameplay but criticism for its lack of content.
Gameplay
In Scoops, the player must tilt the phone's accelerometer to catch as many scoops on an ice cream cone as possible.[1] Each consecutive scoop and scoops of the same flavor builds up a score multiplier, which is continued by picking up a rainbow scoop.[2] Occasionally, vegetables will fall among the scoops, and getting three on a cone will trigger a game over.[3][4] However, by picking up a scoop with stars, the player is awarded an additional chance for error. High scores can be shared online.[1]
Release
Scoops was released for iOS devices on September 18, 2008.[5] By July 2009, Scoops had received 200,000 downloads,[6] and by October 2010, it had received more than 300,000 downloads. A card game based on Scoops was set to release in 2011.[7] The original game was discontinued after the release of iOS 11 in September 2017 that caused the removal of several apps from the App Store.[3]

The gameplay of Scoops was met with a mixed response. While reviewers called it simple,[1][2][8] they also criticized its lack of content.[1][2] Lisa Cowdell of Gamezebo wrote how Scoops is appropriate for short periods of time, including when a person has to wait in line.[1] AppSpy's Dave Flodine added that it was a "quick, fun little time waster" with "colorful and vibrant" graphics and praised its use of a gasp sound effect as "amusing".[2]
