Personal Life[edit]
Scot Sutherland was born January 31st, 1969 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles Dean Sutherland and Susan Kay (née Mayo) Sutherland.
Musical Career[edit]
Sutherland began learning bass guitar in 1983, at the age of 14. First playing live in 1986, he started performing professionally across the Midwest in 1987.[1]
In February 2019, Sutherland was honored with a career retrospective as cover artist for Blues Blast Magazine, which focused significant attention on his status as a first-call international recording and touring artist.[2]
2019 ended on a particularly-high note, with Rolling Stone covering a special studio recording session Sutherland anchored with personal hero and legendary guitarist/producer Steve Cropper, recording Elmore James's classic "Shake Your Money Maker": "It’s a particularly fierce take, with a guitar assist from Stax Records icon Steve Cropper and Scot Sutherland on bass."[3]
Though his profile has risen in prominence through his diverse connections and successful collaborations in the greater Blue music world, Sutherland has covered a tremendous musical range in his multi-decade career, evidenced by the plethora of touring artists, special guests, and styles that are featured each Monday night during Sutherland's "Monday Night Live" concert series.[4][5]
Artists Sutherland has performed and/or recorded with include: Tommy Castro Band, Mike Zito & the Wheel, Pinetop Perkins, Son Seals, Jonny Lang, Welch-Ledbetter Connection, Lucky Peterson, R.J. Mischo, Tab Benoit, Anthony Gomes, Debbie Davies, Deanna Bogart, Albert Castiglia, Albert Cummings, Samantha Fish, James Solberg, Sherman Robertson, Deborah Coleman, James Armstrong, Percy Strother, and Millage Gilbert.[6][7]
