Scranton is an unincorporated community in the Amargosa Valley and Amargosa Desert, in Inyo County, eastern California.[1]
The settlement was named after Scranton, Pennsylvania, [2] which is where a group of investors were from who financed a water company that was to supply water to Greenwater, California and other mining camps.[3]
Geography[edit]
Scranton was located on the former Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad line. It is 13 miles (21 km) northeast of Ryan, a former mining town in the Amargosa Range,.[1][2]
