Señorita is a 2011 Philippine psychological drama film written and directed by Isabel Sandoval[lower-alpha 1]. Set in the late-2000s, Donna, a transgender sex worker (played by Sandoval herself) in Manila, moves back to her small hometown in search of a new life and finds herself living a double life entangled between raising a friend's 12-year-old son and her plans to oust a corrupt mayor.
Señorita is Sandoval's feature-length debut (as well as her acting debut) based on the short film of the same title, made in 2009.Señorita is one of the finalists for the Digital Lokal in the 2011 Cinemanila International Film Festival.
In 2021, it made its North American streaming premiere at The Criterion Channel.[1]
Synopsis[edit]
Donna, a transgender sex worker who lives in Manila, moves back to her hometown in search of a new life. Upon arrival, Donna was tasked by her friend to raise her 12-year-old son, Tomas. Meanwhile, her life was now entangled in her hometown's politics where a town mayor who is seeking re-election was one of the cronies of her former clients.
