Seán Hoy (born 1964) is an Irish diplomat. He is the current Ambassador of Ireland to Brazil since 1 December 2018.[1]
Education
Hoy, a native of County Fermanagh, attended St Michael's College, Enniskillen and Queen's University Belfast (QUB), graduating with a Bachelor of Agriculture degree. He spent the next two years in Sudan with the aid agency Concern. He then earned a master's degree in Development Planning from the University of East Anglia and returned to Sudan for a further two years.[1]
Diplomatic career
Hoy joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1990. For the next 24 years he was a development adviser to the Irish government aid programme. This work included postings to Mozambique, Uganda and Vietnam.
In 2014 he was appointed ambassador to Nigeria and in 2018 to Brazil.[2]
