Search Encrypt

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Search Encrypt is an online search engine that prioritizes protecting searchers' privacy and avoiding search bias or filter bubbles in its search results.[1] Search Encrypt's claims to "not track search history" and "prevents your ISP from tracking your search terms".[2] Search Encrypt uses local encryption to secure users' searches.[3] It uses AES-256 encryption with Secure Sockets Layer encryption.[4] Search Encrypt then retrieves your search results from its network of search partners. After you’re done searching, your search terms expire so they are private even if someone else has access to your computer."

Search Encrypt was created in 2016 by a group of developers. In November 2017, the site had 22.74 million visitors. Search Encrypt is also available as a browser extension for Google Chrome. It is currently listed in the Chrome Web Store.

The company is based in George Town, Grand Cayman and has 10 employees. The name was derived from the products main features.

Search Encrypt works by encrypting user search terms locally with AES-256 encryption.[5] Qualys SSL Labs reports that Search Encrypt's servers use SSL encryption.[6] Search Encrypt earns revenue by serving ads.

According to Search Encrypt's FAQ page, "Search Encrypt utilizes a client side encryption using a short lived key to encrypt your queries before sending them to our servers. The key expires shortly after the final use."[7] Search Encrypt differentiates itself from other search engines by putting privacy first. The website's blog claims that Search Encrypt has "better privacy by default" than DuckDuckGo

Search Encrypt has been labelled a browser hijacker or potentially unwanted program by multiple sites for its search redirection.[8][9][10]

Search Encrypt has been included in many lists of private search engines in online publications[11][12].[13][14][15][16][17][18][19]

SearchEncrypt.com's About page states that users' search data "can no longer be viewed after 30 minutes of inactivity".[20] Keyword autocomplete is operating via private browsing, Tor and VPN.
