Secure Swiss Data (SSD) is a privately held secure end-to-end encrypted email and data service (encrypted calendar, file storage, tasks, and notes) with servers located in Switzerland. It has OpenPGP integrated on application level and TLS on the transport level. Users can create accounts and use Secure Swiss Data services on the desktop through the webmail application and on mobile devices through the iOS and Android apps.

History[edit]

Secure Swiss Data platform was launched on 14 March 2016 at during the CeBIT 2016 show in the Swiss Pavilion. The founders wanted to create a unique service that will enable people to encrypt not only emails, but also calendars, files, notes and tasks.[1][2]

Secure Swiss Data uses 2048-bit encryption keys. AES – advanced encryption standard and RSA are used in order to get the very best benefits of asymmetric and symmetric keys, inside the OpenPGP standard.[3] It also supports HTTPS and uses TLS to encrypt all communication between users and servers, that adds another layer of protection.[4]

On 31 May 2017, free iOS and Android apps were added to Apple store and Google Play Store.[5]

In 2020, SSD was acquired by Switzerland-based SafeSwiss Secure Communications.[6]

SSD servers are located in Switzerland in a former military bunker under 320 meters of granite rock. There users’ data is protected by Swiss privacy laws, including Swiss Federal Data Protection Act.[7]
