The Security Industry Registry (SIR) is responsible for the licensing of security officers, staff, and all others who perform security duties. It also handles complaints about security officers and monitors the performance of security companies.

The SIR has introduced a Public Register of Licences providing details of the current status of security, and commercial and private inquiry agents' licences.
