Early Life and Career

Born into a musical family, Seethalakshmi has sung from earliest childhood. She began formal voice and singing lessons when she was eight, training under a number of distinguished vocalists and voice coaches in her native Kerala. She now studies classical music with Sreekutty Prasanth and guitar with classical guitarist Jose Thomas – in addition to pursuing her academic studies.

By age 11, she was achieving local fame as the lead vocalist of Sargakshetra, a youth singing group with community sponsors[6]. She performed classical and popular music both as soloist and as lead singer. Before going on to join Top Singer, Seethalakshmi was a finalist in a Music Dhamakka (contest) run by Radio Media Village, a Kerala state radio complex, in 2017, and subsequently traveled out of state to become a finalist in a national Voice Competition (All India Malayalee Association) held in Chennai in 2018[7].

During the marathon 22-month run of the Top Singer premiere, Seethalakshmi competed in a total of 82 episodes. Contestants were assigned a variety of semiclassical and popular songs and impromptu improvisations. She was judged "best performer of the day" in 34 of her 82 episodes, and with the grand prize for the season, received prizes – a house and a scholarship – amounting to some US$95,000[8].

Following her win on Top Singer, and precluded by the coronavirus pandemic of 2020-2021 from traveling to performances abroad, Seethalakshmi appeared by videolink in concerts and in stage shows to international audiences in London, UK[9], and Philadelphia, USA[10]. She returned to Top Singer to make two guest appearances during its second season, and also recorded a celebratory anthem in honor of Onam which Flowers TV carries on its website[11].

Seethalakshmi’s first movie soundtrack, recordings for the feature film Minnal Murali with music by Shaan Rahman, will begin streaming on Netflix in December, 2021, in Malayalam, English, and four other languages.

Family

Seethalakshmi’s parents are Prakash Puthunilam and Bindu Prakash[12]. She has a twin sister, Sethulakshmi, and an older sister, SreeLakshmi. She is a student at the St Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Kurumpanadom, Changanassery, India.
