Select Arts[edit]

Select Arts, or Select Arts Presents, is a community interest company that celebrates artistic communities in Gloucestershire. Established in 2005 as Stroud International Textiles and led by Lizzi Walton, the platform has come to include a festival, talks, and annual open studio trail. [1] After six years running an annual Festival, in 2011 the new initiative Select Arts was launched and has included a series of high profile major exhibitions and linked symposiums and seminars in and around Gloucestershire.[2][3]

Select Arts' patrons are Mary La Trobe Bateman OBE; Lulu Guinness OBE; and Jilly Edwards, tapestry artist. Select Arts is currently led by Creative Director Elizabeth Bailey.[4]

Select Trail[edit]

The Select Trail is a highlight of Select Arts' programme. Run annually in the summer, it sees artists' studios opened up to the public over two weekends. The trail takes place around the Five Valleys in Stroud, as well as other locations in Gloucestershire including Dursley, Amberley, and Stonehouse.[5]

Often accompanied by a series of events, the trail has previously hosted speakers such as Kassia St Clair, Author of The Golden Thread.[6] In 2018, painter and Founding Director of Textiles Hub London, Emma Neuberg was appointed Curator of the Select Trail.[7]

Regular exhibiting participants in the trail include ceramicist Cleo Mussi, textile artist Hannah Waldron and The Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.[8] Venues include Lansdown Hall, Victoria Works Studios, The Pink Cabbage, Hawkwood College and The Museum in the Park.[9]
