Sergey Dmitrievich Auslender (Russian: Сергей Дмитриевич Ауслендер; born 1972) is an Israeli military journalist, war correspondent, and YouTuber. He is known for his reporting on conflict zones in the former Soviet Union and the Middle East,[1] and for his commentary on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[2]

Biography

Auslender was born in 1972 in Khabarovsk, Soviet Union. He studied journalism at Far Eastern State University and began his career at Channel One Russia.[3] He reported from conflict zones including Chechnya, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, and Transnistria,[3] and covered the 2007 Hamas takeover of Gaza via Channel One.[3]

Career in Israel

Since the 2006 Lebanon War, Auslender has lived in Israel, working as a military correspondent and commentator on Channel 9. He is recognized as an influential Russian-speaking journalist in Israel.[4] He is profiled by LIGA.net.[5] He immigrated to Israel in 2008 and authored two memoirs: A Strange Patient and Special Correspondent.[3]

YouTube and social media

Auslender launched a YouTube channel on 26 March 2014, now with over 600,000 subscribers and over 200 million views.[6] He also runs the Telegram channel "War with the Download," where he covers developments in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.[7]

On 14 February 2025, the Russian Ministry of Justice designated Auslender as a “foreign agent.”[8]

Personal life

Auslender is married and has two children.[3]

Awards

  • Presidential Certificate of Honor of the Russian Federation (23 April 2008), for contributions to public information and civil society.[9]
