Setareh Najfar-Nahvi is an Iranian violinist living in Austria.[1] She is currently teaching at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music Wien. Next to her teaching function, Setareh Najfar is performing in her capacity as a concert violinist.[2]
Biography[edit]
Setareh Najfar-Nahvi studied violin at the Tehran University of Art from 1978 to 1983. After that, she continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the class of Michael Schnitzler. Subsequently, she was awarded a scholarship by the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport, lasting from 1987 to 1989.[1]
Career[edit]
Before teaching at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music Wien, she taught at the Prayner Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna. She also participated in master classes with Arthur Grumiaux, Igor Oistrakh, Josef Suk (violinist) and Viktor Liberman.[2]
She played as an orchestra musician as part of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, "Tonkünstler Kammerorchester", Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, "Symphonieorchester Innsbruck", the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper, "Vorarlberger Symphonieorchester" and as a member of the "Duo Artdeco Wien" and "Ensemble Triophonus Viennensis".[2] A notable performance as part of the latter was a reworked adaptation of the piece "Der Schneemann" by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. This new arrangment was created by Reza Najfar and is considered the first complete performance of the piece since its premiere in 1910.[3] The performance took place in December of 2017 in the Brahmsaal of the Musikverein.[4]
