Seth Kurland is an American television writer and producer. He is known for his work on the sitcom Friends and for creating the Netflix sitcom, The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia with Mario Lopez.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Seth Kurland was born in Los Angeles, California. He attended Fairfax High School where he participated in drama productions and was on the tennis team.[2] Kurland then attended UCLA where he earned a bachelor's degree in Theatre.[3]

Career[edit]

Kurland wrote for the sitcom Friends from 1996-2000. He created the short-lived 2002 sitcom, Imagine That (TV series).[4] Kurland was a writer and producer on the sitcoms Melissa & Joey from 2010-2015 and Speechless (TV series) from 2016-2019. In 2020 Netflix released the sitcom The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia, created by Kurland and Mario Lopez.

Kurland wrote several songs for the character, Phoebe to perform on Friends, most notably, Little Black Curly Hair. Kurland also composed original music for the sitcoms Rita Rocks, Melissa & Joey, and The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia.

Personal Life[edit]

Kurland plays guitar and has performed under the name Joe Hill.[5][6] He is also notable for writing and performing the song, Famous Jews.[7]
