He previously served as group chief executive officer of Religare Enterprises Limited.[1]

Early life and education

Nath was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.[2] He earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Banaras Hindu University.[3]

Career

Nath began his career in the financial sector with Landmark Partners and Northgate Capital, both private investment firms. At Landmark Partners, he worked in asset management, and at Northgate Capital he worked in private equity and venture capital.[4]

In 2006, he joined Religare Enterprises as chief operating officer. He was appointed group chief executive officer in 2010, a role in which he oversaw the company’s activities across its financial services businesses. By 2011 Religare reported substantial financial losses. Nath proposed a private equity–backed buyout plan, reported at approximately INR 8,400 crore, aimed at restructuring the company with a focus on small-business lending; the plan was not implemented. Following internal disputes within the company, Nath left Religare in December 2015.[1]

In 2018, Nath led the acquisition, recapitalisation and rebranding of Chokhani Securities as UGRO Capital.[5][6] As reported by Inc42 Media, Nath presented his business plan to 121 investors before securing funding from TPG NewQuest, PAG, ADV Capital, and Samena Capital. The company completed an initial fundraising round of approximately INR 950 crore within four months of its inception.[7] UGRO Capital was established as a publicly listed non-banking financial company (NBFC) focused on lending to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).[4][8]

Board membership

Nath is the co-chairman for NBFC and Infrastructure Financing of ASSOCHAM.[9] In 2023, he joined the board of the Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC), an industry body representing NBFCs in India.[10][5]
