Shaheed Bhai Kotwal is an Indian Marathi language, historical drama-War film directed by Eknath Descale and Parag Sawant and produced by Pravin Dattatray Patil under the banner of Swarjai Art Media Production. The film was co-produced by Sagar Shyam Hindurao. The film stars Ashutosh Patki, Rutuja Bagawe, Nishigandha Wad, Arun Nalawade, Ganesh Yadav, Kamlesh Sawant, and Pankaj Vishnu.

This passionately patriotic and socially relevant movie brings to light the life of Hutatma (English : MTRTYR) Veer Bhai Kotwal. Known for his selfless service to the society in the capacity of a Lawyer and Freedom Fighter, his dedicated service was a boon to the impoverished people of Maharashtra.The film was released on 24th January 2020. The film received generally positive reviews and was declared a commercial success.
Plot[edit]
Vithal Laxman Kotwal (alias Bhai) Marathi “Veer Bhai Kotwal” was a social reformer and revolutionary from Neral, Maharashtra, India.
He laid down his life in the freedom struggle of the country. He was killed in an encounter with the Britsh police ofcer DSP R. Hall while he was underground with his team in the jungle of Sidhagadh on 2 January 1943. This film brings light on sacrifices of Gomaji Patl and Hiraji Patil also.
Veer Bhai Kotwal has formed a group of underground mercenaries called "Aazad Dasta", a parallel government in the Karjat taluka of Thane district. They were about 50 in numbers including farmers and voluntary school teachers and his cousin brothers.
His sacrifice while fighting against the Britishers is also known to all. Now, through this film, the new generation will come to know about his contribution to the society.
They cut down electric supplying electricity to Mumbai city. From September 1942 through November 1942 they felled 11 pylons, paralysing the Britsh Government's industries and railways. They hatch a plan to cut of the armament supply of the British and the group becomes a thorn in the Britishers' way.
On 2 January 1943 early morning when the Azad Dasta was preparing to shif to another safe place and was waitng for the help to come, R. Hall and Staford atacked the Dasta members. First to fall was the young Hiraji Patl, son of deputy leader of Azad Dasta Gomaji Patl. Hiraji died on the spot. Bhai Kotwal got injured in the thigh and could not move. Hall killed him point blank by his gun.
He was one of the many lesser known freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the freedom of the country. For his brave fight and sacrifice he is now proudly called "Veer Bhai Kotwal", meaning warrior.
Now, through this film, the new generation will come to know about his contribution to the society and Country.
