Shahid Mamun Mahmud Police Lines School & College (Bengali: শহীদ মামুন মাহমুদ পুলিশ লাইনস্ স্কুল অ্যান্ড কলেজ) is the main school of Rajapara under Rajshahi District.[1]

History[edit]

In order to improve education in the western part of the Rajshahi metropolis, on 17 August 1959, the then Governor of East Pakistan unveiled the plaque of a primary school on 1.75 acres (0.71 ha) of land at the Rajshahi Police Line premises. Later (in the post-independence period) the school was upgraded to a high school in 1961 AD and the school was renamed as "Shaheed Mamun Mahmud School and College" after the late Mamun Mahmud, a freedom fighter and then DIG of Rajshahi region. Recognition as a lower secondary is 1 January 1980 and the date of recognition of the school as a secondary is 1 January 1981. When this educational institution was upgraded to Class XII in 1995, it was renamed as "Shaheed Mamun Mahmud Police Lines School and College". The name of the founding headmaster is Noor Mohammad. He was in charge from 1959 AD to 1982 AD. The name of the current head of the organization (principal) Golam Mawla. He has been working since 9 January 2008. The present number of students is about 1135 (from children to class XII). The total number of MPO registered teachers is 49 (out of which 20 are teachers) including 3 in primary, 19 in secondary and 28 in college.[2]
