Bir Uttam Shaheed Samad School & College, Rangpur is a traditional, reputed and political noise free institution of North Bengal established in 1974 west of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Chatwar. Later, on March 17, 1981, the then General Officer Commanding of the Northern Region, Major General Abdul Mannan, established the main building of Shaheed Samad High School in the cantonment. The educational institution is managed by the Rangpur Cantonment Board under the Ministry of Defense under the Directorate of Military Lands and Cantonments.
History[edit]
Abu Moin Mohammad Ashfaqus Samad (1949-1971) was a brave freedom fighter of Bangladesh's independence war. The Bangladesh government awarded him the Bir Uttam title for his bravery in the war of independence . Named after him, this school started in 1974.
The year is 1974. The school started its journey in 1974 to satisfy the thirst for knowledge of the children staying in a then tinshaded building on the site of the Static Signal Company unit building near the Cantonment Branch Post Office of Rangpur Cantonment. Later, knowing the development and scope of the educational institution was determined, school teaching was started temporarily in the building adjacent to the present main building of GE (Army) of 'MES' as an acceptable school building. But the army officials thought that the environment here was not good for children. Hence, in 1977, Shaheed Samad School's own building was constructed west of Shaheed Mukhtar's Elahi Chatwar (now Cantonment Public School and College, Rangpur Its main building t) is prepared. In 1978, the name of the building was changed from Shaheed Samad School to Cantonment Public School and College and the journey of Cantonment Public School and College began there. On March 17, 1981, the then military commander of the Northern Region, Major General Abdul Mannan , established the main building of Shaheed Samad High School on the northern side of the field of 25 Bir Unit by the PSC. On September 15 of the same year, Shaheed Samad High School was inaugurated at its current location by the Honorable Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Hussain Muhammad Ershad , NDC, PSC. Later in 2000 the name was changed from Shaheed Samad High School to 'Bir Uttam Shaheed Samad High School' and on 1 July 2019 the college branch was inaugurated by the then General Officer Commanding, 66 Infantry Division and Area Commander, Rangpur Area. Educational programs[edit]
In this institution, the students are taught by the best teachers who are carefully trained from infancy to class XII. The college has science departments along with business and humanities departments. Students are taken on educational tours every year.
Besides, every year a big annual banquet is organized in the campus for the students. Sometimes student picnics are organized at historical places or beautiful places. Banquet is held through various sports including dance, music.
The welcome and farewell ceremony of SSC and HSC students is organized in a grand manner.

The educational institution is located in Rangpur cantonment. A playground in front of the school makes the campus lively and vibrant.

Academic system[edit]
Student's are enrolled of the Bangladesh National Curriculum and continue their study up to the end of higher secondary or college level (high school in international standard). They follow the Bangla version syllabus of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board.[4] Three national exams are taken by students, once in class 8, named Junior School Certificate (JSC), another in class 10, named Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the high school leaving examination in class 12 known as the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC).
Each class generally has fifty+ students, divided into two sections which are known as forms. The Junior School Certificate (JSC), Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations are administered under the direct control of the Board of Education of Dinajpur Division. studentss have shown a clear trend of securing top positions in the merit lists of board examinations every year.
Reunion programs[edit]
Being one of the older educational institutions in the country, and with a long list of illustrious alumni, the college maintains a regular cycle of Reunions every 4 years. Usually, old samadian's organizes this event teamed up with the college authority.

There are four houses to host the student's, each two-storied. Each of the houses is given a name, a symbol, and a color.

Usually, each house has 75+ students, 12 to 13 from each grade. Students are divided into houses during their initial intake year. Year-round extra and co-curricular competitions and activities are arranged in the broad categories of cultural, sports and gardening competitions, as well as in academics. Based on results from each competition, the houses earn 'points' and the highest scoring house in a year is announced a winner at the end of the year. This enhances the competition and holistic development of all the Students.
General Rules of the institution[edit]

Keep your fingernails trimmed girls wear ear tops, no fancy watches and hair clips only ear rings are allowed. You take a shower in the morning and brush your teeth properly. You don't go to the roadside shop. Before attending class, ensure the following: Prepare your lessons for the day. Completed the home assignment. Do not loiter in balconies/corridors during class. Use the washroom designated for your respective class. While inspecting the wash room, ensure: Flush the toilet before leaving it. If it is not flushed clean, make sure enough water is poured and it is cleaned. Water is not splashed in the washroom to avoid accidents Senior students will be addressed as: To male students - (Vaiya) To female students - (Apa) Male students must be very formal with their female classmates. Under no circumstances can anyone be funny with them. Relations with them will be cordial but formal. You should treat them like your own sisters. Any complaint by a girl will be treated as a crime and will be dealt with strictly. Dealing with classmates, seniors and juniors: Remember, students are classmates from different backgrounds and from different parts of the country. Every person is different from others, some body is emotional, Can be irritable or anti-social but everyone should try to behave normally. Don't start fights over small issues. Remember - beatings, gangs and bullying never solve a problem, rather create problems. For any problem at school - be it a misunderstanding with a classmate or a problem of your own - bring it to the attention of the class teacher. BUSSSCR Property: 1. Turn off fans and lights before leaving the classroom. Keep your desk clean. Notify the office of any unusual circumstances.
Library[edit]
For centuries, all the knowledge of people has been stored in books. The source of endless knowledge is books and the abode of those books is the library. Don't limit yourself to just studying textbooks. We have to try and extract knowledge from the knowledge of the outside world and in this case a beautiful library is needed. Libraries are benchmarks for the development and progress of a nation. The library is open to all. There is no religious sectarianism here, there are many opportunities to read books for every student. A rich library can change the shape of a society. Our library has all kinds of academic and liberation war books. By reading books a student becomes elegant in behavior, spontaneous in thought. Enthusiastic and energetic. Rabindranath Tagore in his library article said about the library - "How many rivers, seas and mountains have crossed the human voice to reach here - how many centuries this voice is coming from the edge. That is, the rise and fall of the human heart can be heard in the library itself. For this reason, Rabindranath Tagore compared the library to the roar of the ocean. Students have various responsibilities towards the society and the state. For this, they should develop themselves properly, so that they can become ideal people in the future. There are various cartoon books and various books related to the history of liberation war to develop children's thinking. There are various resource books for teachers. Our library has all kinds of poems, stories and novels including the unfinished autobiography written by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and there are biographies of various thinkers. By reading which a student can develop his intellect. The collection of various books has been expanded. The library also has Bengali and English newspapers and current affairs which are read by students and teachers in their spare time.
Institutional Mosque[edit]
Since there was no mosque around the institution, in 2007, the then General Officer Commanding of Rangpur Cantonment established the Shaheed Samad / Freedom Mosque with two floors. In addition to education, a two-story mosque of the institution has been established in front of the main entrance of the institution for the worship of Almighty Allah. So that the students are busy in worshiping Allah in addition to reading and writing. Apart from this, the mosque is open to respected guardians, employees of institutions, army employees, non-temporary (civil) etc.

- 2011 - The institute ranked 18th out of 20 institutions that excelled in results in Dinajpur Education Board.
- 2014 - Ranked 15th among top 20 educational institutions of Dinajpur Education Board.
- 2015 - 10 institutes of Rangpur placed in top 20 of Dinajpur Board; The institute ranked 17th.
