Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool.

Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool (Chinese: 深水埗公園游泳池) is a public swimming pool in Sham Shui Po, New Kowloon, Hong Kong and is one of the three public swimming pools in Sham Shui Po District. It is located next to Sham Shui Po Park at the junction of Lai Chi Kok Road and Tonkin Street and is near West Kowloon Law Courts Building, Fu Cheong Estate and Lai Kok Estate. Currently, it is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong Government.[1]

History[edit]

Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool was opened on 11 September 1985 and was originally managed by the Urban Council. It was built at a cost of HK$46 million and was the third pool complex to be built by Urban Council for Kowloon West after Lei Cheng Uk and Lai Chi Kok Park swimming pools.[2]

In 2000, the Urban Council was disbanded by the government, and management of the swimming pool became the responsibility of the newly formed Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).

On 1 June 2005, the then Secretary for Home Affairs Patrick Ho visited the pool for the implementation of measures to improve the hygiene and cleanliness of its swimming pools.[3]

Facilities[edit]

Today, the swimming complex has a main pool with a 750-seat spectator stand, as well as two teaching pools, a secondary pool, a training pool, a diving pool, a children's pool, and a toddlers' pool. There is also a family changing room in the pool.[4]
