Shane Sanders (born December 8, 1967 in Crossville, Tennessee, USA) is an American artist, composer, designer, and digital media entrepreneur.

Digital art[edit]
In 1999 he authored and published one of the first commercial digital texture collections, entitled Futurehaus--Mapping the Imagination.[citation needed] Images from this product were used on 3D aircraft models in the film Hart's War.[1][citation needed] The cover of the product box and manual for Caligari's TrueSpace 3D[2] software also utilized work from this disc. His Futurehaus related work has also been distributed internationally in the UK print publication 3D World.[citation needed]
His 3D modeling and animation work was featured in the Graphis - 1999 Interactive Design Annual I for two separate projects.[citation needed] For one of these projects, a CD-ROM for the then telecommunications giant MCI, he was also a recipient of one of the 1999 Regional ADDY Awards for Interactive CD alongside award-winning designer and art director Phil Makes.[citation needed] This same project won the bronze at The New York Festival.[citation needed]
Music[edit]
Sanders obtained his formal musical and studio training at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville between the years 1986 and 1991. During that period he began experimenting with various forms of dissonance and musique concrète that would influence his later work in a genre often called dark ambient or sometimes damnbient. As a student at UTK, the initial electronic works of Sanders were juried and approved by Prix de Rome winner John Anthony Lennon and UTK professor of composition Kenneth A. Jacobs.[citation needed]
His first album, Jellyfish Emperor, was released from the Nashville-based ambient / space music label Space For Music Records in 2002. It was predominantly an ambient work with a clear nod to academic electronic music produced by such composers as Morton Subotnick and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Other collections, released independently, are Dream Harvester, an EP, and the full length albums Chemical Wedding and Lepidoptera. An electro-pop piece entitled Night of Harrison's Death may be heard on the Musicians for Asia[3] compilation CD which was released to raise money for victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
In 2005, he launched a commercial digital venture called Sample Squad that produces exotic percussion samples for composers and multimedia developers.
Sanders has charted at number one in the New Age category of the online music portal BroadJam.[citation needed] Additionally, he has co-writes with electo-pop darlings Venus Hum and National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland cellist Claire Fitch who also produces best-selling ambient albums for the independent label Magnatune.
Much of the Sanders catalog is in rotation on the independent online radio station StillStream.com.
Chess[edit]
In 1982 he was a member of the U.S. National Chess Champion team. In 1983 he was the U.S. National Chess Champion in Category IV.[citation needed]
