Sharon English High School is an English-medium school in Mulund, Mumbai, India, located at B. P. Cross Road # 1. The school was founded by Shri K. T. Philip and Mrs. Anna Philip in 1967.
In the early 1980s Sharon School was a small school that was run with Christian missionary zeal by Mr and Mrs Philip. Although K. T. Philip was a devout Christian, the school never overtly promoted any religious values. He was a highly respected academic within Mumbai. He was succeeded by Ranjini Madam who became the headmistress. The current headmistress is Aruna mam. The school was named after the Rose of Sharon mentioned in the Christian bible, and the school's emblem is a red rose.
The school became popular because of its exceptional results in the Secondary School Certificate examinations, and admission was highly sought. In 2014 one of the school's pupils scored 97.4% the in the SSC examination, amongst the highest in India.[1] The school has never accepted donations and admission is purely on the basis of parental interviews with the child present.
The school has a kindergarten in a separate unit from the main building. The headmistress of the primary school is Mrs Thomas.
The primary school uniform is a white shirt with green trousers or skirt and a red tie. The secondary school uniform is grey trousers and a green checked shirt with a maroon tie with a red, blue, green or yellow stripe in the middle.
The school has no playground of its own and the annual sports day is held in the Excel Ground in Mulund, when the games include dodge ball, relay, langdi, and kabaddi, with inter-house football and cricket matches arranged for the boys. Football matches are played against other schools.[2] An annual social gathering is held in the Kalidas auditorium in Mulund.
The actress Avika Gor attended the school in 2008.[3]
