Sheelam Bhadraiah (born 24 December 1980) is an Indian Telugu Poet, writer, Actor and Educater in Telangana state.
Early life and Biography
Sheelam Bhadraiah was born on December 24, 1980, in Annaram village of Thungathurthi mandal, Suryapet district, to Sheelam Buchaiah and Yadamma. He settled in the town of Nalgonda. He received his primary education in Annaram village and his intermediate education at the Government Junior College in Thungathurthi. Later, he earned his degree from Nagarjuna Government College in Nalgonda and a postgraduate degree in Telugu Literature from Osmania University. Professionally, he currently works as a Post Graduate Telugu Teacher (PGT) at the Government Model School Junior College in Kanagal, Nalgonda.
Literary Career
His first story, "Kempu Cheruvu" (The Musi Lake), was published in the Namasthe Telangana newspaper. To date, he has written over forty stories, which have been published in all major Telugu newspapers like Namasthe Telangana, Velugu, Telugu Velugu, Nava Telangana, and Saakshi etc. His first book, ‘Lottapeesu Poolu’, was published in 2020 and contains 15 stories. The book received praise from many, including the then-Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, and Ramoji Rao, the head of the Eenadu Group. He wrote his second story collection, "Gangeddu" (The Bull), in 2021 (Note: text originally said 2022, but publication year is listed as 2021 in the works section). The 14 stories in this collection were well-received by critics. Venkaiah Naidu noted that his stories feature the Telangana dialect, the atrocities of the Razakar era, rural culture, and represent a historical heritage that should be passed on to future generations. In 2022, he wrote a playlet ("Naatika") titled "Khooni" (Murderous). In 2025, he wrote "Musthaadu," a poetry collection. This work made history by being recorded as the first-ever Gouda poetry collection in Telugu literature from Telangana. Also in 2025, he published "Perpu," a collection of various essays. His essays on the Telugu language and literature have been published in numerous newspapers. Critics have opined that his poetry brought the life of the Gauda community into Telugu literature and paved new paths for Bahujan (popular masses) literature. He encourages his students to write stories, and as a result of his mentorship, they won the third prize from the Telangana Sahitya Parishat (Telangana Literary Council). He also served as an Associate NCC Officer at his school for a decade, and many students who received this training joined the army and are serving in national defense. The writer Vemula Yellaiah praised him, saying: "Sheelam Bhadriah is an educated man, a Telugu teacher. He lives and breathes the ‘accent’ (yāsane) in story and poetry. He writes stories that double the beauty of the Telangana language, its subjects, craft, and writing style. After Boya Jangaiah, he turned the direction of the story southwards. He is boldly cultivating the Telangana story against the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regional story."
