Shein is a Chinese online fashion retailer founded by Chris Xu in Guangzhou in 2008. It currently serves over 220 countries.[3] The company is known for its cheaply priced apparel which is made directly in China.

History[edit]

In 2018, the company was sued by Levi Strauss & Co. for copying a trademarked jean stitching. The case was settled out of court.[4]

In June 2020, it was banned in India citing privacy concerns.[3] In July 2020, a necklace with a swastika was pulled from sale (the brand clarified that it was a Buddhist swastika, not a Nazi swastika).[5] On 17 May 2021, it was the most downloaded Shopping app in the U.S.[6]
