Sherry Martin Woods, (born 1951). Dr. Sherry Woods, a member of the South Carolina Philharmonic[1], is well known as a performer, composer, and educator. Her latest work is Mara: A Chamber Opera .

Education[edit]

Doctor of Musical Arts degree in viola performance, University of South Carolina , 1991. Doctorate[2] in composition, University of South Carolina, 1997.

Career[edit]

Dr. Woods maintains a private violin/viola studio. Taught at Francis Marion University[3] and the University of South Carolina[4]. Solo artist for the South Carolina[5] Arts Commission Community Tour Program, multiple terms.

Woods’ music has been performed internationally with performances in Thailand, Taiwan, and Kiev and also in the United States with performances from California to New York. Her music ranges from the intimacy of chamber music to symphonic and choral music.

Lament for Lost Infants, saxophone quartet Vienna Saxophone Quartet reading. One of three winners of the USC Saxophone Quartet Competition.

Santa Fe, New Mexico, 3-5-2020. The Buddha’s Death, the final scene from Māra, A Chamber Opera, was performed at the Music by Women Festival at Mississippi University[7] for Women on March 6, 2020.
Of Rivers and Trees, a song cycle for tenor, piano, violin, viola, cello, and flute *** Commissioned by the Low Country Heritage Society and premiered at the College of Charleston in November of 2001.
Persephone Dances, cello and orchestra Koger Center in Columbia, South Carolina in July of 1997
