Shimron Elit (born April 1978)[1] is a British-Israeli singer-songwriter. He embarked on a solo career in 2013.[1]
His debut solo album Niteshade was released in 2014.[2] In 2015, his second studio album, Chron was released.[2] His third studio album 20:20 was released in March 2020.[2]
Personal life
Elit was born in London,[3][1] but later raised in Surrey, England[3] by his IT professional father and former programmer mother. He was brought up in a Protestant household. Elit moved to Israel[3] in 2010 for spiritual reasons and is fluent in English as well as Hebrew, the language of his newly adopted home. Artists he has been influenced by include David Bowie, Calvin Harris, Genesis and Deadmau5.[4] Elit has suffered from alcohol addiction intermittently since 2016 and it remains an ongoing problem.
Career
Niteshade (2013–2014)
While working and writing in Efrat, it was the influence of synthwave artist Kavinsky that eventually persuaded Elit to enter the recording studio. He recorded and produced what would be his first solo album; Niteshade.[2] It was released on the Extrell Music label in March 2014. Described as a deeply personal album, it explores Elit's struggles with alcohol and addiction to prescription medication.[3]
Chron (2014–2015)
The electronic, synthesized dance sounds that Elit was looking for and experimented with in his studio formed much of the backdrop to his second album Chron, which he himself produced. Elit was quickly and deeply touched by the people and landscape of Israel, so much so that he now has a permanent home in Jerusalem.[3]
Chron was released in June 2015, recorded in Efrat and produced by himself.[2]
20:20 (2017–present)
On August 21, 2017, Elit unexpectedly released a new single, Not You.[2] An EP, also titled Not You was released in January 2018.[2] Four further singles from the album, 20:20, have been released - Magic, Phoenix, the album's title track 20:20 and Lucid.[2][5] During this period he contributed to two articles in MusicTech magazine, section Talking Tech.[6][7]
The album was released prematurely, comprising only versions of the tracks already released as singles, on March 3, 2020. An expanded edition of the album, titled 20:20xtra, was released in April 2020, including two new tracks, Lucid (also released as a single) and Anymore?, along with a new radio edit of 20:20 and an extended mix of Lucid.[2][5]
