Shoecraft are an American indie folk band formed in Snohomish, Washington in 2013. The band currently consists of Jacob Baughman (vocals, guitar), Brandon Mackie (guitar), Rachel Casel (vocals), Anthony Baker (bass) and Trevor Church (drums, percussion).

Led by singer-songwriter Jacob Baughman, the band started meeting in 2012 with periodic jam sessions on the shore of Lake Shoecraft (Stanwood, WA - 40 miles north of Seattle), and began performing in 2013. Over time they developed a seasoned ambient sound and elegant music storytelling which adds to the rich music legacy of the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

History[edit]

Formation and early years (2012-16)[edit]

Originally four members would meet for jam sessions at a house on the shore of Lake Shoecraft near Lake Goodwin (Snohomish County, Washington), 40 miles north of Seattle). Out of the sessions, they developed the ethereal sound infusing their music.

The Whisper II (2015–19)[edit]

In the span of over a year, the band recorded (and re-recorded) the collection of songs sometimes recording at a rented cabin. Mored nearby was a small boat named the Whisper II from which the album name emerged. The album was released in the fall of 2016. Shortly after the release, guitarist Zach Thayer departed the band, and Trevor Church joined as the permanent drummer. Shoecraft played shows around Seattle, Portland and eastern Washington.

While the group enjoyed pleasant reception in local reviews, the single Cheeks received a surprising amount of attention in the United Kingdom. After getting picked up by popular Spotify-UK playlist curators, BBC Television used Cheeks in their episodes Sport Relief coverage [1](BBC - Georgie's Story).

The Great Regulator (2019–present)[edit]

Work began on a second studio album in 2017, not long after the Whisper II released. As with the previous album, some recording was done away from the cities in rented cabins in the woods. The underlying themes of the songs were inspired by the powerful and spiritual influences of time. Accurate clocks of old, especially wall mounted ones with weight and pendulum mechanisms, used for official time keeping were referred to as "Regulators". During the evolution of the songs on The Great Regulator, Shoecraft released pre-album EP versions of several tracks.
