Short Story is an online personal styling service in the United States.[1] It is focused on serving petite women whose height is 5'4" and under. Short Story uses a subscription model to allow users to try on clothes at home prior to purchasing. It employs its proprietary fit system to determine the best sizing and fit for petite women and recommends new styles based on user preferences. The company was founded in 2019 by Isabella Sun and Samuel Hoffstaetter. Short Story is funded by the accelerator, YCombinator. It is headquartered in San Francisco.
The average height of an American woman is 5 feet 4 inches, with a standard deviation of 3.9 inches. 40% of all American women are 5 feet 3 inches or shorter and roughly one-quarter (25%) are 5 feet inches or shorter. Regular female sized clothing is designed for a woman at least 5 feet 4 inches tall and do not fit women of shorter height well. Petite size clothing is designed to fit women of 5 feet 4 inches and under.
