Career
2001–2009: Career beginnings and Bad Deal
Shortyo was initially signed to 101 Distribution, who signed on to distribute Shortyo’s first album Living My Life. Even though that album had great production and great features, the distributor failed to execute the promotional plan, leaving Shortyo and his team doing all the street promotion and radio themselves. At this time, Shortyo saw the opportunity to start his own label Affiliated Records and team with Michael Palmer and EMI to distribute the music on Shortyo's label.
From 2002-2006 Shortyo built his label and signed artists like Cyssero, Reiko, L Japan and Smooth. In January of 2006 Shortyo and his label Affiliated Records released Cyssero’s debut album Phillys Bad Guy[2]
2009: The Deal with E1 Entertainment
In 2009 Shortyo inked a 6 album distribution deal for his label Affiliated Records under the major imprint [[Koch Entertainment] aka E1 Entertainment[3].
In October 2009, Shortyo released his major debut studio album King Of The Kounty featuring artists Lil Wayne, Nate Dogg, Hitmaka, and Too Short.[4] It charted at #59 on the Billboard 200 and its lead single, "Thats Right" featuring Lil Wayne, was released and charted at number 6 on the Itunes Rap Songs Chart.
In 2011 He peaked at the number two spot on Apple Music for his single "Swagg So Mean" featuring Justin Bieber[5]
Shortyo released his next single in 2013 Gangsta (song) featuring Miami Cuban-American singer Kat Dahlia. "Gangsta" was featured in the background of the September 24, 2014 Season 16 Premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Girls Disappeared and appears at number 11 on Apple Music.
2012-2019: New Deal, Re-Release of King Of The Kounty And Retirement
In April 2012, following label trouble with E1 Entertainment, it was announced that Shortyo was now signed a new distribution deal with Warner Music Group to release his next 2 albums. In 2013 Shortyo released his second major release Father Forgive Me featuring 50 cent, Snoop Dogg, Bow wow, Fabolous and more on all digital outlets.
Father Forgive Me was well acclaimed and settled in the top 50 on Apple Music Charts.
In 2014 Shortyo announced on his official Twitter he was retiring from the music game and focusing on his family life.
In 2019 Shortyo's label released a Limited Edition version of his debut album King Of The Kounty on all digital outlets to commemorate the 10 year release featuring 5 bonus tracks and more.
