Shravan Kummar (born on May 2nd, 1976, Hyderabad) is an Indian Fashion designer who is well known for his creations which embodies the essence of traditional Indian textiles wide spectrum of colours and ethnic silhouettes. [1] [2] [3] His passion towards reincarnating the vintage saris has brought the sari back into reckoning as a fashion wear among the urban elite, and is also helping hundreds of traditional weavers who work closely with him and began his tryst with haute couture. [4] Shravan Kummar has been supporting weavers from the beginning of his career through his works. Eventually he has established a public charitable and non-profitable organization, “Aalayam society” in the year 2015, where poor artisans across the country were employed and encouraged in order to sustain the rich weaving and handcrafted traditions of India. [5] He also has promoted Indian handlooms on international platforms such as United States of America [6], Canada and United Kingdom through fashion shows and exhibitions.

Early life and Education[edit]

He graduated from London College of Fashion Designing majoring in colour psychology and with a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Designing from NIFT Hyderabad. In the year 1991 at a very early age he launched his studio named "Shravan's Studio" where the garments are custom-made according to the clients’ personas, keeping in mind even the subtlest aspects to make them feel comfortable and trendy.

Honours and awards[edit]

  • He is one of the Indian fashion designer to be selected as a NIXON DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER [8] [9] to Cornell University in New York where he had orated about our Indian Handlooms and textiles. He is one of the designers who had been working with and supporting many weaver's communities across India.
  • He has been awarded 'The certificate of Excellence' from "Council for industrial & Trade Development India" addressing his brand, Shravan Studio for expertise in transferring the true essence of Indian tradition and creating new trends and designs in garments.

Social Responsibility:[edit]

2015 ‘Couture for a Cause’, a fundraiser fashion show was held in the year 2015, in aid of a liver foundation that works towards helping children with liver diseases. Tollywood celebrities and some socio-economically elite people like Nani, Rashi Khanna, Prashanti Tipirneni, Kanika Dhillon to name a few walked the ramp in support for this cause.

2017 and 2018 In order to raise funds for ill healthy children, Shravan Ramaswamy has been associated with “Heal- a- child” foundation from Hyderabad and did a charity show for two consecutive years 2017 and 2018 where socio-economically elite group of couples walked the ramp showcasing the handloom weaves of India.

Personal life[edit]

Shravan Kummar lives in Hyderabad, India with his wife, Lakshmi Shravan and two kids, Utthisht and Sahasra.
