Career
He joined the apex industry association, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 1978, which at that time was known as Association of Indian Engineering Industry (AIEI), and completed his service with CII on 1 July 2012, as Director and Head – South Asia. He is presently working as a Consultant, having completed his responsibilities from CII in June 2015.
He has vast experience of over 37 years and headed the international work of CII for Africa, West Asia and South Asia.
He established and headed the CII office in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1995 and worked in Nepal for more than three years from the premises of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Kathmandu, networking very closely with the Government, industry and business groups.
He has also worked in the Public Policy Division of CII and interacted with the leaders of various political parties of India, Ministers and senior Government officials.
As the In-charge of the Africa Desk in the early ’90s, he started CII initiatives in Africa and led business delegations to African countries, joining as the Mission Manager. During that period, he planned strategies to promote trade and strengthen economic cooperation between India and African countries and organized many business delegations (to and for), conferences, and seminars to establish Indian business in Africa in cooperation with the African Missions in India, Indian Missions and Government of India.
As Director and Head – South Asia in the International Division of CII, he has monitored and worked to strengthen economic and bilateral trade relations between India and South Asian countries. He has organized many conferences, seminars and led several CEOs and Business Delegations to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. He has accompanied Indian CEOs and Business Delegations to these countries as the Mission Manager and organized meetings with the Head of State, Ministers, Senior Government officials, leading chambers, and other dignitaries.
In India, he has organized business meetings with the Heads of State, Ministers, business delegations, and organized B2B meetings with counterpart organizations. He was actively involved in familiarization of trading agreements between India and Sri Lanka; India & Nepal; India and Afghanistan preferential trading arrangements.
He has worked very closely with the leading Chambers in South Asia and African countries, overseas Missions in India, Indian Missions abroad, foreign companies and operational level officials.
Apart from the above, he has vast experience of working closely with Indian companies in matchmaking, investment promotion programs, promoting exports/imports, dissemination of information, organizing national and international level seminars/ conferences/ exhibitions in India and abroad, preparing background papers, talking points, country profiles, etc.
