Yehushua "Shuki" Ohana (Hebrew: יהושע ״שוקי״ אוחנהֿ) (born April 27, 1966) is the mayor of Safed, Israel.[1]
Biography
Born and raised in Safed, from 1984 to 2007 he served as head of the organization branch and Torah in the Logistics Corps. A logistics officer in the tank division, a staff officer in the Northern Command. He graduated from the Israel Defense Forces with the rank of lieutenant colonel, and graduated from the College of National Security (Command and Staff) in Political Science. He also graduated from the course for directors and senior officers of corporations at Tel Aviv University, and served as coordinator of the activities of the executive bodies of the Prime Minister's Office in the North. Member of the Executive Committee of the World Likud Secretariat, Member of the Northern Region and Histadrut Conference, Chairman of the Board of the Ashdod Maritime College and Director of Lalan, and Chairman of the Likud Branch in Safed. In the 19th Knesset elections, the Likud candidate was the representative of the Galilee and the valleys. He was first elected as a member of the Safed City Council. He served as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee, and a member of the World Likud Secretariat. Member of the Northern Region and the Histadrut Conference. Chairman of the Board of the Ashdod Marine College and a director of Lalan. [2]
In the municipal elections held in October 2018, he ran for the mayor of Safed for the third time and won the November runoff by a majority of 61%, defeating the pro-haredim candidate Nahman Avraham Gelbach.[3] He holds a BA in Business Administration, a Master's degree in Educational Administration, and an LLB degree in Law from the Kiryat Ono Academic College. With his wife Dorit, they have three children.
