Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. (SMEL) is an Indian metal producing company, headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal. The company produces long product structural steel, ferro alloys, pellet and sponge iron.[6]
SMEL got listed at Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange of India on 24 June 2021.[7] At the time of its IPO the company used to operate three manufacturing plants located at Sambalpur in Odisha, and Jamuria and Mangalpur in West Bengal.[8]
History
In 1991 Shyam SEL and Power Ltd. (SSPL) was established with its Sponge Iron plant in Mangalpur with 0.06 MTPA capacity. In 2014 the company established Captive Railway Siding at Jamuria manufacturing plant. The Captive railway siding also operational at Sambalpur plant. Till 2021, the company expanded its capacity of TMT and Wire Rods 5.71 MTPA.[9]
As on 30 June 2022, promoters of Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. held 88.35% shares in the company.[10]

Expansion and acquisition
In 2021, SMEL made a successful acquisition with Shree Venkateshwara Electrocast in the aluminum foil metal space.[11]
In May 2022, Shyam Metalics acquired Ramsarup Industries aims at enhancing and reviving the operations and steel-making manufacturing facilities of Ramsarup Industries at Kharagpur.[11]
On 20 December 2022, Shyam Metalics acquired Mittal Corp with a foray into the Stainless Steel (SS) / Wire Rod & Bar Mill business.[12]
