History

Among the military actions that took place in the lands of modern Cherkasy region after the death of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, it is difficult to single out the one that can be unequivocally considered the starting point in the military chronicle of the final stage of the Ukrainian National Revolution. If we follow the specified chronological framework (autumn 1657 - autumn 1676), the first significant armed clash in our region took place on 10 (24) November 1657 near the walls of Uman between a 6,000-strong Tatar detachment and the Cossacks of the Uman Regiment led by M. Khanenko. It ended in a complete defeat of the Crimeans, not least because the city's garrison had been warned by intelligence about the plans of the Tatar army
